Illinois hospitals owe the state more than $700M, sparking questions and calls for change
Across Illinois, 19 hospitals — mostly safety net hospitals like West Suburban and Weiss — owed the state nearly $705 million in taxes, penalties and advance payments, as of earlier this year.
